Congratulations to David Leonard (ZL) on his win in the ridge task from hell. He got high and stayed high on the ridges, which was the way to go. Although it seemed really slow, the speeds were probably more along New England speeds in a typical task. However, it would have been nice if the wind had been stronger so the ridges actually worked decently. 3+ hours was a looonnnnnggggg time for a MNS task.
Oh, and sorry Matt that you landed after TP2. If you had made it around the corner on the ridge you would have probably been ok. There was weak lift most of the way in the valley.
On the positive side, the blood red sunset was absolutely supurb, but it was almost pitch dark when I finished so I couldn't even see the airport to land. I looked for ZL's glowing PDA but couldn't see it so I landed somewhere next to the town. Someone's back yard, I think.
This may be an interesting task with more wind out of a slightly different direction.

Thanks, Doug,
I was pretty well done at that point. I was down below 1000' above the valley floor and didn't have enough altitude to poke into the valley and then get back if there was nowhere to land in there. I was seeing some lift on that little ridge but I was too worn out to work it.
The task also would have worked all right about an hour or so sooner in the day since there were some really strong thermals working off the ridges. Really strong winds would have been interesting, too, since they would have set up wave lift.
Congratulations again to Dave!

Yeah, congrats to the finishers!
I was thinking that with 11kts from the west there would be enough. And with the number of clouds arround I was hoping I could mix and match but, I just could not center the thermals. When I did (sort of) they died. I was also trying to stay out of everyone's way. If I caused anyone to have to jink, I appolgize.
Well, an outlanding next to a buxom farmer's daughter (note to self: pack a bottle of champaign next time) do have it's attractions.
